DJ Theory - Aloe Blacc/Wu-Tang edits

i met this dude DJ Theory when i was out in San Francisco last month while playing a gig with him at Som (Som is a dope spot, if you find yourself in the area, go there!). he was playing a ton of fresh shit, a bunch or re-edits and remixes, including this one! when i heard him drop this, i walked over to him and told him i needed it... to my surprise he's the one that knocked this joint out! and now, here it is for you all to enjoy!

Bonobo - Black Sands on Ninja Tune

Bonobo's been one of my favorites since i first heard him. my homey Butter told me about him... simply said that he was "amazing". since Butter has great taste i picked up two Bonobo records, Animal Magic and Dial M for Monkey from Reckless upon seeing them, took them home and was blown away. it hit's someplace deep. it evokes emotion that is rare and mostly non-present in popular music.
His last album Days to Come featured one of my favorite singers Bajka, on which she sang the title cut, one of my favorites that i still play regularly. even made it's way onto one of my mixtapes. Black Sands enlists the help of Andreya Triana, the singer that was introduced to the world on Flying Lotus' popular "Tea Leaf Dancers". she sings on three tracks, including the first single "The Keeper" (the 12" has a lovely drum and bass remix... cop that!), and the second single "Eyesdown", which is sort of an ethereal uptempo, but mellow dubstep joint ala Burial or Floating Points (who did a remix of the song).
the album is incredible! it's one of those things where, even though i got a digital promo, i'm still buying that joint on wax!
Bonobo will be in Chicago on April 1st, doing a live set with the full band (and hopefully Andreya Triana... she was with them last time! check their version of "Tea Leaf Dancers"... i wish they'd release it!) at The Metro, and doing an after set DJing downstairs at Smart Bar. $21 for both! cop tickets here: http://www.metrochicago.com/shows/

FREE album: Gif - View of a Loser From on Top of the World

Gif is an MC from NY that i had the pleasure of rocking with last time i was out there. he's part of a crew called New Rap Order (NRO) that my homey K-Swift is down with. Gif just told me bout this project, and that it's FREE on his bandcamp page. who doesn't like free shit? it can't get any cheaper to support this man's music. do it.

Idris Goodwin - Break Beat Poems on Stugee Records

my homey Idris Goodwin just put out his 4th solo album Break Beat Poems on Evanston's Stugee Records. it's produced entirely by Anomaly, who has been churning out forward thinking hip hop beats for alotta years. Idris is a playwright - aside from being an amazing MC - having had many of his works featured in festivals around the country. peep my favorite joint from his album so far (as i haven't had proper time to let it digest yet)... it's the introduction! but it's a full song! i may be partial because i get a name drop in verse 2... but mainly the beat is a banger and Idris snaps off!
